The first effort of the initiative, set to kick off in
February 2012, is business process management. As a precursor
to the selection of a new student information system, the
business process management effort will look at the current
student-related business processes. Using the LEAN
methodology, each process will be documented and then
redesigned to streamline the process. The streamlined
processes will then be aggregated and form the basis of the
requirements for a new student information system. The
business process management effort is scheduled to last 12
months.
A second important project is the creation of a robust
business intelligence environment. The business intelligence
environment will be designed to assist University leadership
to make informed decisions in support of the strategic goals,
as well, as provide students with the administrative
information that they need to be successful at the University.
The first two areas to be addressed by the business
intelligence effort are human resources and finance
information. At a later date, the effort will move towards
supporting the implementation of the new student information
system. As modules of the student information system are
deployed, the business intelligence environment will be
developed in parallel. Using an Agile methodology, the
overarching goal of the business intelligence effort is to
provide value-added knowledge, rather than simply accessing
data.
The third project is to replace the current decades-old
student information system. This multi-year effort will
leverage the streamlined processes developed in the business
process management effort in the selection of a new system.
The overarching goal of the new system is to elevate the
student system from a container for information, to a critical
tool to give the University a competitive advantage for the
future.
The fourth project is to optimize the administrative
enterprise technology architecture. This initiative is
designed to ensure that the technology housing the business
intelligence, enterprise resource planning (to include the new
student system), and other planned systems is sufficient to
meet the needs of the University for years to come.
The LEAPForward initiative will be conducted under The
Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). This standardized
framework will ensure that the initiative is business focused,
stakeholder involved, scope defined, and transparent.
We are looking for general core
competencies…..
